CARTOGRAPHY Of The GARDEN
In early April 2002, I sent out explorers to discover new and uncharted lands in my garden. I created a yellow string grid over the garden and invited ten friends from different professions and age groups. They were given a compass and set sail one by one. The hope was to find new worlds and report basic landscape formations. No explorer was told what others had discovered in their expeditions to neighboring lands. What they saw went way beyond my expectations. I subsequently created paintings and drawings exclusively from the information brought back to me from their explorations of the garden.
